ROBOTICS specialist ABB is passionate about securing the next generation of manufacturing workers. So much so, that the company is supporting the 9th Annual Manufacturers’ Monthly Endeavour Awards, through its sponsorship of the Young Manufacturer of the Year Award.

“At ABB we have a strong graduate program and a culture of inclusiveness. Since we are engaged with the development of young people all around the world, we felt that this category – Young Manufacturer of the Year – was an ideal platform to support and recognise young achievers in the manufacturing industry,” ABB head of automation and motion division in Australia, Jussi Rautee, told Manufacturers’ Monthly.
Rautee is looking forward to the announcement of the Young Manufacturer of the Year finalists, in the April edition of Manufacturers’ Monthly. He hopes to see a diverse range of skills, particularly strong personal leadership skills and business ethics.
“Something inspiring and technologically advanced would be really great. For finalists to get to that, they would certainly need the ability to approach challenges head on plus to be passionate about their project to enable positive and innovative project outcomes,” he said.
ABB is an advocate for encouraging personal initiative and entrepreneurial behaviour, and seeks to offer challenging and rewarding work environments. According to Rautee, the global company recognises that a diverse and talented workforce is a key competitive advantage.
“We invest a lot of time and effort in our employees across the organisation. Our electrical apprenticeship and graduate programs plus our global consulting approach are key,” he said.
It’s not too late to enter the Young Manufacturer of the Year category, with entries open until 27 February; finalists will be invited to attend a dinner ceremony in Sydney on 8 May, during which the winners will be announced.
“We encourage all young engineers to enter and be proud of their contribution and achievements. It is a great awards program, supported by a broad range of companies across the manufacturing sector. All nominees are worthy recipients of the award, whether or not they are the winner on the night,” said Rautee.
