WorkSafe WA to conduct safety inspections in May

WorkSafe WA will conduct an inspection campaign to look at safety standards in manufacturing workplaces in the Malaga ndustrial area next month.

The campaign is just the latest in a series of projects aimed at targeting specific geographical areas in the metropolitan area.

WorkSafe WA commissioner Lex MuCulloch said the proactive inspection campaigns concentrate on particular industries or activities or specific geographical areas.

“Perth includes some significant industrial areas, and the Malaga industrial strip contains a large number of workplaces that conduct manufacturing activities," MuCulloch said.

“Like all our proactive campaigns, the aim is to identify risks to the safety and health of workers in the industry and to provide employers with information on how to comply with workplace safety laws.”

The campaign will target industries such as manufacturers of food and beverages, wood and paper products, non metallic mineral products, metal products and other types of manufacturing in the area.

WorkSafe’s inspectors will focus on the priority areas of manual handling, working at heights, slips, trips and falls, electricity, hazardous substances, new and young workers, mobile plant and machinery guarding, according to WorkSafe.
