WorkCover GM congratulates Heinz on one year without injuries

WorkCover has congratulated Heinz Wagga Wagga on its “impressive safety record” after reaching one year without a recordable worker injury.

WorkCover general manager of occupational health and safety, John Watson, said the Wagga Wagga plant’s safety record put it in the top-five-per-cent of all Heinz facilities across the world.

“Heinz Wagga Wagga employs more than 100 people and produces around 9000 tonnes of canned goods every year,” he said.

“It’s a major regional employer which exports internationally and the safety of workers, especially in manufacturing industries is the highest priority for WorkCover.

“I want to congratulate them on behalf of WorkCover on this great achievement.

“Heinz Wagga Wagga has implemented a number of safety improvement programs including training on first aid, chemical awareness, working at heights and conducts ongoing surveys to look at more ways to improve safety.”

Watson said Heinz Wagga Wagga was an example of the many companies across NSW doing the right thing by its employees.

“The message is simple: safe business is good business,” he said.
