Rapid prototyping: increasing agility in design and manufacturing

Today’s product development landscape is characterised by high demand for variety, increasing customer expectations, and near constant innovation.

To top it all off, product lifetimes are shrinking. The result is driving greater competition among manufacturers with the pressure to do more, better, and faster.

No Olympian has ever taken home a gold medal without intensive training. In the same respect, no winning product design has ever been the result of beginner’s luck.

Product development is training for game day and requires cycle after cycle of effort, feedback, and improvement.

To stay competitive in a market that is perpetually shrinking time to market, manufacturers need to meet and break new release schedules in their product development cycles. Rapid prototyping offers that opportunity.

This guide gives you an insight into increasing  agility in design and manufacturing with rapid prototyping.

Mitrefinch presents a guide to selecting a time and attendance system

Time and attendance is a very tough nut to crack, but it can make a world of difference to your business.

Employees start the day on time, every day – meaning there are no more lost hours due to late starting times.

No more confusion over shift swaps. No more double booked annual leave. Time and Attendance software can be the key to all this.

Everything running just as it should – now, doesn’t that sound nice? But not all time and attendance systems are the same, and with different types of suppliers and varying requirements, selecting the right system can be a daunting task. But it doesn’t need to be!

This guide gives you all the information you need to tackle your time and attendance needs straight on.

Industries get their fix with LOCTITE Universal Structural Bonders

Adhesives are used for a multitude of applications and are common to every industry, whether that be in the assembly of products, or in the maintenance and repair of equipment.

It can be challenging, however, to find an adhesive that will provide a strong bond between two substrates with very different characteristics – and to find one that can do this in an efficient timeframe.

This white paper explains how the unique hybrid technology of LOCTITE Universal Structural Bonders work to solve these industry issues in the face of a growing global demand. It also discusses the suitability of the adhesive to a wide range of industrial applications with successful case study examples that demonstrate its effectiveness.

See how businesses are getting involved in demand response

On Tuesday 13 Nov, Flow Power discussed the rewards that businesses can get from demand response over summer in its webinar.

The Flow Power team shared a customer example, highlighting how a refrigerator business was able to participate in demand response.

Demand response is supported by the market operator AEMO and ARENA and is a trend that’s here to stay in the energy market.

Businesses are rewarded in the form of payments and its simple to get involved.

Watch the webinar recording to learn more about how businesses are getting involved.

Investing in “Made in Australia”

When you look at aluminium doors or windows on buildings and homes, there is a very good chance that many of them come from Australia’s oldest manufacturer of custom windows and door fashions, Wynstan.

Manufacturers’ Monthly caught up with Bruce, Iain and Andrew Turner from Wynstan to talk about how the business has been working with St. George Bank to keep manufacturing in Australia.

Get rewarded for how you use power this summer

Summer is fast approaching which means that your business can get involved in demand response programs and be rewarded for how you use power this summer. Demand response has become a hot topic in recent years. Last year the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) launched a joint initiative to ensure stable energy supply during times in peak demand of which, Flow Power is a participant in the program in NSW.

What’s the problem with solvents?

Most solvents are “volatile”, that is, they evaporate into the air very quickly even at room temperatures. The vapours that result can be breathed in and some can easily pass through your lungs and be absorbed into your blood stream.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Avoid the use of products with organic vapour producing solvents in them eg water based coatings.
  • Make sure there is good ventilation in your work area where solvents are used.
  • Use the minimum amount of solvent needed for your job and keep lids closed.
  • Wear suitable respiratory protection for the type and amounts of solvent vapours involved

Monitoring danger zones with 2D laser scanners

In situations where man and machine work together, it is critical to maintain a safe work environment for everyone. The task is made easier using Pilz’s PSENscan 2D laser scanners.

When a person enters a configured warning field or protected field, the PSENscan 2D laser scanner detects that action. If the person is in the warning field of vision, the movement of machinery can be subjected to controlled braking. If the person then moves into the protected field, the machinery movement is quickly shut down.

A personal approach to training operators

The performance of heavy machinery such as trucks, bulldozers, commonly encountered in the industry, are adversely affected by the ability of the operator by up to 30%. Inadequate training further adds to the lower productivity and higher equipment maintenance and repair costs. Using personal simulator, companies can easily filter candidates to be trained as equipment operators. It is also an effective training tools to develop a correct habit and technique with demonstrated capability for review their performance.
