National Manufacturing Week (NMW) will include a strong Western Sydney focus when it returns to the Sydney Showground – Sydney Olympic Park on May 8 – 11.
Described by NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell as “crucial” to Western Sydney, and praised by the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, NMW will provide opportunities for local manufacturing businesses to grow through exhibitions and forums providing new ideas and contacts.
Co-located with Austech – Australia’s advanced precision manufacturing and machine tool exhibition – NMW aims to strengthen manufacturing through technology, innovation and education. When last held in Sydney (in 2010), the event attracted more than 10,000 visitors, and this year’s NMW is anticipated to again attract a strong attendance.

Including Keynote Address by The Hon. Andrew Stoner, Deputy Premier, NSW followed by a facilitated panel forum discussing how local businesses can develop new areas of competitive advantage, and collaborative partnering to access global supply chains. -
Western Sydney Business Connection (WSBC) Forum: ‘Improving the Bottom Line’
(Thursday, May 10). This event will focus on strategies for improving efficiencies and boosting the bottom line. Speakers will present research and case studies that relate directly to local conditions.

A strong Western Sydney showing at the NMW exhibition
More than 60 Western Sydney businesses will be among the 450 companies exhibiting their products and services at NMW and Austech.
Among them are Parramatta-based Energy Action, Australia’s leading independent energy management company who works to reduce business’ energy usage and costs; and Erskine Park-based Ubeeco, who offers some of the world’s leading specialist packaging products.
Two local businesses – Penrith-based Cryonomic and Minto-based Dry Icetech Australia – will showcase new, environmentally-friendly industrial cleaning based on dry ice that safely cleans equipment – from delicate electronics to heavy machinery – without using harsh chemicals.
The exhibition will also include locally-based operations of global companies, including factory automation company Mitsubishi Electric, gases, chemicals and equipment supplier BOC and welding products and services pioneer Kemppi.
NMW’s Western Sydney focus reflects the region’s importance to the manufacturing sector and NSW’s broader economy. Sydney’s Greater West is home to more than 8,500 manufacturing businesses[1] (almost half of NSW’s total manufacturing capability), employing more than 100,000 people[2].
With this in mind, NMW’s location – in Homebush, the gateway to the Sydney’s west – as well as its strong local focus means NMW 2012 will be a significant event for Western Sydney businesses looking for new contacts, ideas and innovations.
As NSW Premier and Minister for Western Sydney, Barry O’Farrell observes, “If we’re going to give Western Sydney the jobs and the opportunities they deserve, it’s vital that manufacturing is given every chance to succeed.”
“By bringing together customers and suppliers, and promoting new technologies and innovations, trade events such as NMW are crucial to ensuring our local businesses remain internationally competitive,” Mr O’Farrell said.
