Visy opens $12m factory in Thailand

Visy has officially opened a $12 million thermoformed barrier plastic cup factory in Thailand.

The factory will supply local customers in the region – including Dole Thailand – with thermoformed plastic cups for food products such as pineapple pieces.

Visy’s Director of Strategy, Rob Rogers, said the factory had performed strongly so far, with plans already in place to expand production.

He said Visy had been impressed with the high quality, productivity and skill levels of the Thai based work force and was optimistic about the outlook.

“Visy is in discussions with several major food companies, and although currently all production is for local consumption, the factory is expected to produce cups for Australian-based food producers in the near future,” he said.

“The combination of this new facility with Visy’s existing food plastics operations at Clayton in Melbourne means that we have the technology and flexibility to provide high quality product and service to food processors across the region,” he said.

The factory employs 30 staff and is located in Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate. As part of the official opening, Buddhist monks performed a traditional blessing ceremony on the new factory and equipment.
