Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu has praised the return of National Manufacturing Week to Melbourne, saying that its focus is in line with his government’s commitment to manufacturing.
NMW 2013 is co-located with Austech and takes place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on May 7-10. Performance and productivity-stimulating measures will feature heavily this year.
“The focus of National Manufacturing Week is ‘doing more with less,’” said Baillieu.
"This complements the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to increasing Victoria’s economic productivity and maintaining a strong manufacturing industry.”
NMW was last held at Melbourne in 2011, hosting 11,500-plus trade visitors.
Baillieu acknowledged the manufacturing sector’s importance to the state’s economy.
“It’s an industry that is a key part of the State’s economy and is globally recognised for improving productivity, research and development,” he said.
“The industry contributes around $28 billion to the Victorian economy each year and employs around 300,000 people.”
Paul Baker, the Exhibition Director for NMW, has said that care is being taken to make sure the event is as useful as possible to attendees.
“The exhibition team is working hard to develop areas of particular interest to industry. For example, responding to industry feedback we have introduced two new Product Zones – Sustainable Manufacturing and Metals & Composites,” said Baker
“This means that the show will be clearly segmented in 12, Product Zones to help buyers and sellers find each other easily.”
