Union furious at Labor for scrapping car fund

The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) has launched a new national television and online advertising campaign to urge the Labor government to ‘put manufacturing back on the agenda’.

The move follows Gillard scrapping the Green Car Innovation Fund which was set-up last year to help automotive manufactures manufacture more environmentally-friendly cars suitable for the local and export markets.

The Union is angry that the Government dumped the Fund and is very concerned about the future of key industry research and development programs, along with jobs.

According to AMWU national secretary, Dave Oliver, communities in Labor heartland seats in Victoria and South Australia are also concerned about the future of Australian manufacturing.

AMWU National Secretary, Dave Oliver, said the union would be campaigning in these key manufacturing areas to encourage Government investment in jobs and local industries.

“The clear feedback from people in these electorates is that more must be done to promote and develop Australia’s manufacturing industry,” said Oliver.

Oliver is encouraging all readers to go to www.makingourfuture.com.au and tell their local MPs that jobs matter.
