The South East Melbourne Manufacturers’ Alliance has commented following the Victorian government’s release of its 30-year draft infrastructure strategy, suggesting investment to boost the affordability and ease of transport was needed.
Local newspaper the Greater Dandenong Leader reports that SEMMA’s wish list calls for measures including upgrades to the Monash Freeway, a rail link to Melbourne Airport, moves to cut transport costs, and more platforms at Dandenong train station.
“We must remember that although Greater Dandenong has the lion’s share of the manufacturing community, much of the workforce comes from other areas and particularly Casey,” SEMMA’s CEO Adrian Boden told the Leader.
“The importance of ease of access to move employees to the workplace is critical.”
The advocacy group represents over 200 manufacturers from the south-east region, which accounts for an estimated 44 per cent of the state’s manufactured products.
