ATLAS COPCO Tools and Assembly Systems has introduced its new cordless Tensor STB, a new generation of transducerised hand-held nutrunners, for the motor vehicle industry and other manufacturing industries.
This new member of the Tensor familiy joins the broad range of Atlas Copco’s transducerised nutrunners for safety-critical applications.
The Tensor STB is a battery-driven transducerised nutrunner which combines good performance and reliability of Atlas Copco electric nutrunners with ideal levels of advanced process control offered by industrial radio control (IRC) systems.
The combination gives operators the freedom to move along the assembly line and access tight spaces while retaining complete control over exacting measurements to fasten bolt joints to the desired tightening torque.
“The Tensor STB is the first hand-held cordless transducerised nutrunner to provide the torque, speed and accuracy as well as reliability and simplicy of operation to fasten bolts for critical applications, such as vehicle assembly,” Carl-Fredrik Haukås, product marketing, Atlas Copco Tools and Assembly Systems said.
“No power cable means that operators can move freely while tightening joints both inside and outside the vehicle.”
All the advantages — without the cable Naturally, the Tensor STB comes with all the advantages of Atlas Copco assembly tools in its Tensor product range.
Like its siblings, the Tensor STB is part of a complete fastening system that comprises a tool, controller and software. Noise and vibration levels are low; power-to-weight ratios and ergonomics are high.
The major difference is that the Tensor STB doesn’t come with a power cord.
The IRC system of the Tensor STB uses the same adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) techniques employed in Bluetooth technology, which ensures rebust communications and significantly reduces interference.
This is said to be a big plus in noisy working environments.
Eight sets of signal lights are situated on the ergonomic handle, providing the operator with instant access to vital data within a 100-meter range.
Real-time data on actual torque values enable operators to take immediate corrective action, if necessary.
Zero-fault process control Working together with the Tensor STB is Power Focus 4000, Atlas Copco’s new generation of advanced control systems for tightening.
Basic PLC software functionality, including error proofing, is now built into the controller itself, providing the capability to integrate and control the Tensor STB in the assembly line without requiring any additional hardware.
This makes it easy for operators to change configuration settings when modifications in assembly line protocols are required.
