Toyota and Audi are set to preview self-driving vehicles at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, according to early reports.
In a short video posted online Toyota offered a glimpse of what the prototype model, which it dubbed the 'Advanced Active Safety Research Vehicle,' would look like.
The video showed a car with sensors on the front grill, rear wheels, and roof, including a spinning cylinder on the roof that has featured on similar models by Google and Nokia.
The unveiling of the next-generation vehicles at CES will come just a week before the North American International Auto show in Detroit, one of the largest automotive shows in the world.
Last year Nissan unveiled a prototype car that could park itself, and Volvo is also reported to be working on a system that allows cars to automatically follow each other over long stretches of highway.
