Toyota, the brand of choice in forklifts for WA freight company

West Australian freight company Clarkson Freightlines has chosen to run
a Toyota-only fleet of fork lifts at its busy transport depots thanks to
benefits such as superior handling, versatility and driver comfort. Clarkson
Freightline’s forklifts were purchased from the Toyota Material Handling branch
at Kewdale in Perth.

Servicing the mid-west region of WA, Clarkson Freightlines operates out
of its Greenough depot near Geraldton and a new facility at Forrestfield in
Perth. The company specialises in distributing freight to the agricultural
sector, including all types of general freight from dangerous goods, farm
chemicals and fencing materials to timber and building supplies.

Though they have previously used forklifts from a range of other brands,
company general manager Kris Clarkson said they now run an all-Toyota forklift
fleet split between their two locations. Given their busy operations, their
forklifts are constantly in use and need to be able to handle huge workloads across
a variety of applications, hence the decision to go with Toyota for its excellent
handling and reliable backup service.

Beginning with one Toyota forklift, which impressed them with its reliability
and ease-of-operation, Clarkson Freightlines quickly replaced the other
forklifts with the Toyota brand over a period of two years.

Clarkson Freightlines’ fleet consists of four 2.5-tonne payload 62-8FD25
diesel-powered forklifts for general duties and one LPG-powered 2.5-tonne
32-8FG25 forklift for lighter duties.

Mr Clarkson observes that the Toyota forklifts have become the machine
of choice for their depot staff as they are much more comfortable to drive and
operate than the previous forklifts.

Key features of Toyota’s 8-Series forklifts include superior operator
comfort thanks to the fully-adjustable Operator Restraint Suspension seat with
lumbar support and a spacious operator compartment providing excellent forward
visibility; Automatic Fork Levelling Control to level the forks during loading,
ensuring stability and safety; and Toyota’s exclusive System of Active
Stability comprising the advanced Active Swing Lock Cylinder, which can help
improve forklift stability and reduce the potential for lateral tip-overs in
select variants.

Mr Clarkson is impressed with the support received from Toyota Material
Handling Kewdale branch area sales manager Darren Desouza and the rest of the
team, particularly in relation to one important modification.

Mr Clarkson explains that Darren organised for all their forklifts to be fitted
with digital weight scales prior to delivery. This particular feature is invaluable
to the freight company as they charge customers by weight and the scales help
the forklift operator gauge the weight of each load as they work.

Mr Clarkson is also very satisfied with the prompt service and backup from
the Kewdale branch.

According to Darren Desouza, arranging client-specific modifications such
as the digital scales is all part of the TMH service as the company is
constantly looking to provide an outstanding customer experience and supply the
best equipment for every customer.

Mr Desouza adds that TMH offers the full Toyota, BT Lift Truck and
Raymond forklift range, which allows them to partner with their customers and
provide the right solution for their specific needs, backed by excellent
ongoing technical support.
