Toyota recalls Lexus vehicles for safety fears

Toyota has recalled about 2500 Lexus vehicles in Australia. This is part of a larger worldwide recall of 370,000 vehicles.

AAP reports that the vehicles in question in Australia are Lexus IS350s which were manufactured between April 2010 and July 2011 and Lexus RX400Hs which were manufactured between June 2006 and December 2008.

About 1750 RX400Hs are being recalled locally. In these vehicles, heat damage to the transistors in the hybrid system could impair electrical circuits, causing warning lights to illuminate and the vehicle to enter a "limp home" mode.

"In limited instances, the hybrid system will shut down, resulting in the vehicle stopping while the vehicle is being driven," Toyota said in a statement.

In addition, around 750 Lexus IS350's are being recalled because bolts may loosen and cause an engine rattle.

The spokeswoman said in a worst-case scenario the vehicles may stall while driving.

There have been no accidents or injuries reported as a result of these issues and owners of the vehicles in question will be contacted and given free vehicle repairs.
