Toyota recalls 2.27 million vehicles over airbag system

Toyota
has recalled 2.27 million cars worldwide due to a faulty airbag system.

The ABC reports that 20 models are covered by the announcement, and that 9 million cars had been
recalled by the Japanese auto maker in two months.

“There is a
risk that the airbag container could break down and scatter around, which could
cause fire or injuries,” said Toyota in
a statement.

News Corp notes that the recall affects
19,600 vehicles in Australia, and that there were seven recalls by the car
company last year following nine the year before.

There have been no reports of serious
accidents or injuries linked to the faults.
