Project: Health and Safety Systems and Initiatives
A leader in the local automotive industry, Toyota Motor Corporation Australia’s employees are fundamental to the success of the business.
Toyota works closely with employees and managers to provide a safe and healthy working environment, providing training and development courses for Toyota Australia’s workforce, dealers and supplies.
The Toyota Safety Scheme incorporates a number of OHS initiatives as follows that contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Some of these initiatives include: Safety Month – held twice a year it focuses on specific safety issues; President’s Safety Shield – where departments across Toyota Australia compete against each other to agreed safety improvement targets; and the Toyota Ergonomic Burden Assessment (TEBA) tool, a unique program and process that ergonomically assesses all Toyota Australia online and logistics processes through technical video analysis and practical reviews by team members and group leaders.
For the 2008 calendar year, the car maker achieved a Lost Work Time Frequency Rate (LWTFR) of only three, compared to eight in the 2006 calendar year and has a long term goal of achieving zero injuries by 2012.
