Toyota veteran factory manager Akinori Hyodo will be visiting Australia and New Zealand in August and September to run Lean Leadership Master Classes in Melbourne, Sydney, Christchurch and Auckland. Hyodo Sensei is a long-time Toyota Production System leader and the former factory manager of the Toyota factory in Japan responsible for the manufacture of the HiAce vehicle.
The master classes are being run for senior managers and lean practitioners interested in fostering a culture of continuous improvement within their organisation. Hyodo Sensei will share how process improvement is achieved within Japan’s leading companies, and how to implement lean manufacturing practices in Australian operations. The course will cover the fundamentals of the Toyota Production System including 5S, standardised work and visual management, but will also focus on developing human assets and the role of management within an organisation.
In each city the 2-day master class will include a half-day visit to a local facility for an on-site analysis with all participants. For example, in Melbourne, Toll Group, recently purchased by Japan Post, is opening up their Port Melbourne Toll Priority facility for this experience. All courses will also include an overview of the operations at the Toyota HiAce factory in Japan.
Hyodo Sensei has previously visited the region to run lean training courses together with lean consulting firm Shinka Management as part of the ongoing Kaizen Foundation Series. The courses received extremely positive feedback from participants, and included visits to companies such as Qantas, Cochlear, Arnott’s, Haigh’s Chocolates, Etel Transformers, RM Williams and Fisher & Paykel.
