Toowoomba Manufacturing Hub to boost regional industry

The Queensland Government has confirmed it will establish a new Manufacturing Hub in Toowoomba, fulfilling an election promise and providing a boost to regional industry.

The initiative is part of a broader $10 million investment from the 2025–26 State Budget aimed at expanding manufacturing capacity across Queensland.

The Toowoomba Manufacturing Hub will provide targeted support for local businesses, focusing on areas of existing strength in the Darling Downs, such as food and beverage production, steel fabrication, advanced composites and engineering services for the resources sector.

Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said the new hub marked the delivery of a key election pledge by the Crisafulli Government.

“We promised to deliver a Manufacturing Hub in Toowoomba, and we are getting on with delivering,” he said.

“This investment is one of the many ways we’re laying the foundation of a fresh start for Queensland’s economic future – by restoring confidence, backing industry and supporting regional jobs.”

The hub is intended to enhance industry capability, stimulate innovation, and help future-proof local manufacturing businesses across southern inland Queensland. It forms part of the Crisafulli Government’s broader plan to expand Queensland’s manufacturing sector and ensure the state has the workforce, skills and expertise to meet growing demands.

Treasurer and Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki said the project would play a key role in strengthening the region’s economic foundations.

“We promised a better lifestyle through a stronger economy in Queensland and that’s exactly what the Crisafulli Government’s first Budget delivered last week,” he said. “Investing in the Toowoomba Manufacturing Hub is a major step toward building a stronger manufacturing sector in regional Queensland.

“We want more Queensland-made products, more secure regional jobs, and a stronger, more self-sufficient State.”

Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts noted that Toowoomba already hosts over 1,000 manufacturing businesses, highlighting the region’s industrial importance.

“Toowoomba is home to more than 1,000 manufacturing businesses, making it a critical hub for Queensland’s regional manufacturing economy,” Watts said.

“This hub will ensure manufacturers across the region get the practical, targeted support they need to thrive.”

The Manufacturing Hub is expected to begin work with local firms shortly, focusing on strengthening supply chains, adopting new technologies and supporting workforce development across key manufacturing sectors.
