Team Australia, which consists of a group of teenage boys and girls from Australia who have learned space age engineering technology and designed, made and raced futuristic F1 cars, was outstanding at the recent world championships in London.
The group of Aussies totally dominated the world championships of the “F1 in Schools Technology Challenge” winning virtually everything but the elusive world title.
The best three teams from Australia beat 20 other nations to finish second outright (Redline Racing from Canberra), third (AC Racing from Noosa) and fourth (Biohazard from Sydney)! Redline Racing missed the title by just a handful of points.
Team Australia also scooped up Fastest Car in the World (Redline Racing), Best Technical Portfolio, Best Pit Area Display Booth and The Ashes — a replica urn to the one fought over by the Australian and England cricket teams.
Inside it are the ashes of the 2006 World Champions (Australia) and runners-up (England).
AC Racing won Best Collaboration Team in the World having developed their hi-tech’ 80 km/h miniature racer with a classroom from Manitoba, Canada.
They relied on collaboration technology from Cisco Webex to produce their car and portfolio.
Australian born Sam Michael, technical director of Williams Formula One team, was on hand to see the Aussie domination. Also there to witness it was McLaren Formula One driver and F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
When asked to race a car for the paparazzi he selected Redline Racing’s one. Team Australia has been invited to visit the McLaren team headquarters.
