Tasmania’s Cadbury chocolate factory was forced to halt production when its computer system was struck by a global cyber attack.
The company was not able to access its computer files unless it paid a ransom of $300 in Bitcoin. As a result, operations were halted and hundreds of workers were placed on cleaning duty.
At this point, it is unknown whether the company has been able to resume production after it was faced with the attack at 9.30pm last night.
The attack on Cadbury is part of a global wave of cyber attacks, reminiscent to the WannaCry attacks in May. Numerous businesses have been affected around the world, including Danish shipping and energy company Maersk, Russian oil industry giant Rosnoft, and in Australia, law firm DLA Piper.
