SENATOR Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, has congratulated Peregrine Semiconductor Australia on winning the Australian Government Engineering Innovation Award at the 2008 Australian Engineering Excellence Awards.
The award was presented in Canberra last Wednesday by NSW Senator Doug Cameron, who was representing Senator Carr at the event.
“Peregrine is a highly innovative company and the only commercial semiconductor manufacturing operation in Australia. It is also now making significant inroads into the global electronics economy,” Senator Carr said.
Peregrine produces integrated circuits using its UltraCMOS silicon-on-sapphire technology, which makes it possible to deliver more speed and power at a lower cost, and allows high-performance microwave, analogue and digital functions to be combined on a single chip.
Senator Carr congratulated all 36 finalists in four categories on their achievements.
“These awards recognise the vital role that companies like these play in improving Australia’s economic, environmental and social wellbeing.”
Senator Carr said the Australian Government had supported Peregrine’s endeavours through its business program delivery division, AusIndustry, in the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
“Peregrine has received AusIndustry grants as well as support through Tradex and the Industry Cooperative Innovation Program“, Senator Carr said.
“Twenty-five of the other finalists have also received support along the way from AusIndustry.”
Peregrine was also awarded highly commended in this year’s Endeavour Awards in the Exporter of the Year category.
The Endeavour Awards is a national awards program designed to recognise manufacturing excellence.
