Siemens Industry Automation division has announced plans to build a new factory in Chengdu in the Chinese province of Sichuan to strengthen its position in Asia.
Production at the factory will start from mid-2013. The factory will develop and manufacture high-end Simatic controllers and automation components.
According to report by Azorobotics, the electrical and automation giant will manufacture the Simatic S7 programmable logic controllers (PLC) at the factory from 2013.
The planned 3,000 metre square factory will be later expanded to10,000 metre square and is expected to employ over 1,000 people.
Corresponding agreements were signed with local authorities on 17 October 2011.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the Chengdu factory will be held in February 2012.
