Saab Australia's local operations have been shut down, resulting in the closure of the company's operations in Port Melbourne and six job losses.
The decision to close the business, which imports and distributes Saab vehicles and parts, was made after Saab Australia's Swedish parent company went bankrupt last month.
An attempt to sell the business to a third party in Sweden was also unsuccesful.
Ferrier Hodgson have been appointed administrators for the shuttered company, and said there was unlikely to be any immediate impact on the owners of Saab vehicles.
“Saab drivers can be confident their vehicles will be kept on the road and they should have no problems accessing parts over the short to medium term,” they said.
“Once we have a better understanding of the level of interest in the business we will be in a position to post a longer-term view.
“With regard to warranties, we are working with the dealers around Australia to minimise any potential impact.
Ferrier Hodgson partner Sewart McCallum said the focus for administrators would now be on selling the remaining vehicles and parts to interested parties.
