Roadshow to examine new BRC global standard for packaging and packaging materials

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) has extend an invitation to the food and packaging industries to attend its April roadshow to learn about the new BRC global standard for packaging and packaging materials, and the potential development of a new course.

The roadshow, which will cover Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, is designed to assess the depth of interest in industry so the AIP can determine if there are sufficient numbers available to justify the development of this new training course. The roadshow is free to attend for all.

What is the BRC global standard?

The new global standard packaging materials for packaging and packaging materials specifies the safety, quality and operational criteria to fulfil obligations with regard to legal compliance and protection of the consumer.

The standard applies to the manufacture of packaging and packaging materials used in filling operations and to packaging and packaging materials for cosmetics, toiletries and other consumer products and materials.

In the case of companies which use packaging materials it is essential that they are familiar with the comprehensive nature of the standard in the development of their purchasing specifications and the operations within their own organisation involving packaging materials.

Objectives of the roadshow:

  • A brief introduction to the background of the Global Standard and its development
  • A closer examination of the standard its requirements and objectives
  • The implementation of the standard by companies
  • An outline of the auditing and certification process and the role of the Global Standard.
  • Detailed examination of the auditing role and the training of auditors

  • Packaging manufacturers including materials such as cartons, plastic films and containers, closures, adhesives, labels etc.
