THE Bracks Review into Australia’s automotive industry seeks to steer a sensible course in shaping the key directions for the industry over the next decade, Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) Chief Executive, Heather Ridout said today.
According to Ridout, the recommendations would provide important support for rationalisation, globalisation and innovation in the industry.
“These directions are necessary to build better economic outcomes for Australia. “The recommendations put forward by the Bracks Review should give the industry impetus to develop through the tariff reduction phase.
“Importantly, the Review has rejected some ill-conceived proposals which the unions were pressing relating to pattern bargaining and protecting employees’ entitlements,” Ridout said.
“Instead, employers and unions have been encouraged to engage in ongoing dialogue to support the restructuring process.
“Ai Group urges the Government to consult with industry and to then move quickly to announce its decisions on the future of tariffs and industry assistance,” she added.
