Protected mobility opportunities for local manufacturers

In conjunction with Victoria’s Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Thales is holding a supplier conference highlighting opportunities in its Bendigo-based Protected Mobility business — home of the Bushmaster vehicle.

The event will be held in Melbourne Thursday 9 July.

Key Thales personnel will outline the company’s current business and future strategies, and will request expressions of interest following the conference from interested suppliers.

“This is a great opportunity for new and existing suppliers to meet with us to explore a wide range of possibilities,” said Ian Irving, Thales Australia’s Land & Joint Systems Division VP.

“We are interested in developing relationships with suppliers who can meet our requirements for high quality components, and who have a real commitment to on-time, onbudget delivery.

“In the recent White Paper, the government made a commitment to ‘growing the capacity and competitiveness of local defence industry’.

We are well placed to leverage our own experience in conjunction with international best practice to design the world’s best Protected Mobility vehicles tailored for the Australian Defence Force, and remain firm believers that Australian industry has the skills, the creativity and the workforce in place to deliver world class capability to the Defence Materiel Organisation and the ADF.”

Thales is currently bidding for major national and international programs including Phases 3 and 4 of the DMO’s LAND 121 project, which involve protected utility vehicles as well as a new Australian Light Protected Vehicle.

The company is looking to integrate the latest technologies from all industries into the new vehicle platforms. Opportunities for suppliers include (but are not limited to):

· Steering

· Vehicle support systems
