A MELBOURNE- based specialist stainless steel fabricator has installed a new robotic welder to enhance its production efficiency at a time when stainless steel has risen significantly in price and experienced stainless welders are in strong demand.
Stainless Tanks & Pressure Vessels (STPV) invested $150,000 in a new welding robot and company principle Chris Miller, said the company has already seen productivity benefits in the accurate and high quality welding of fittings to the dished ends of stainless steel pressure vessels used in fire suppression systems.
“Because of the resource and mining boom we are finding strong demand for the pressure tanks that store the fire suppressant chemicals used in systems fitted to the major equipment items like excavators, loaders and dump trucks.
“We put a fair bit of time into investigating the welding robots and systems that would suit our needs, before we placed an order with local company Robotic Automation for a dual station Almega AX-V6 welding robot”.
STVP’s production manager Shaun Matthews says that the robot gives the ability to perform high volume MIG welding tasks for a range of specialty stainless fabrication requirements.
“With our new welding robot STPV can now offer the flexibility of AC or DC pulse welding from 2 to 10mm in thickness,” he said.
