Production begins for Chevy Volt EV

Chevrolet has started manufacturing its Bolt electric hatchback vehicles at Orion Township, Michigan, which will sell for $US 30,000 after a federal tax break.

AP reports that the Bolt claims a range of 238 miles (383 kilometres) for a single charge.

The vehicles will go on sale by the end of 2016 in Oregon and California, before being sold in the other US states next year.

The Bolt begins at $US 37.495 (with a tax credit of $US 7,500).

Endgadget notes that the car will beat Tesla’s mass-market electric vehicle to market, with the Model 3 scheduled for release mid-next year.
