Sole adhesion tester

The sole adhesion tester from IDM Instruments has been designed and manufactured to determine the strength of adhesion between a toe or heel and upper of occupational protective footwear, suitable for a factory or laboratory environment.

The standard model, S0010, measures adhesion at the toe of all footwear where the sole thickness does not exceed about 16 mm.

The instrument is available with a load scale of up to 100 kgf which is suitable for the toe adhesion of all footwear.

The toe piece supplied fits the majority of toe shapes.

The toe piece of the instrument is inserted in the feather line groove between the sole and upper.

When the back of the shoe, resting on the fulcrum, is pressed downwards, the toe piece effectively applies a force to the load beam, separating the sole from the upper. This force is shown by the load dial gauge on the instrument.

The sole adhesion tester has been designed in such a way that the adhesion test can be performed on either the toe or heel of shoes.

Metal industry safety guide

IN a bid to reduce the risk of hand injury in the manufacturing industry, Pro-Visual Publishing is calling for greater education with its 2009/10 edition of the Metal Manufacturing Industry Guide to Safety.

Satellite system

SSI Schaefer has introduced the Orbiter, said to be a new concept for storage and transporting the unit.

Consisting of a satellite with docking station, it is said to considerably increase the efficiency and performance, as well as the safety operation, of the satellite storage concept.

The Schaefer Orbiter and docking station are provided as a set, with lock-in pins safely securing the Orbiter into the docking station; preventing accidental slippage.

When the Orbiter is required to be located in a specific channel, the fork-lift picks up the docking station with the Orbiter, and locates it in the front centring console of the rack face.

Eliminating operator stress, the Docking Station is therefore easy, safe and fast to use as it is fitted with fork pockets below the unit to avoid possible movement.

Its location into the high visibility plastic guides, which provide up to 50mm operational clearance, can be with the same speed and safety as the location of pallets within the system even when operating at heights of 9-10m.

Fitted with high performance condensers, utilising an in rack integrated power supply, the Schaefer Orbiter System, is completely unique in comparison to the traditional battery operated systems.

The system has also been designed to be simple to operate, with All functions, such as storage, retrieval, inventory count and shuffle mode, etc. are controlled by the forklift driver and relayed to the to the Orbiter using RF technology, which carries out the command automatically and returns to the station after each procedure.

New blower for greater efficiency

CAPS Australia has unveiled the new Conquest GT Eco-Turbo Blower range at the recent Annual Victorian Water Industry Engineers and Operators Conference in Bendigo.

The range is said to be 20-40% more efficient when compared to conventional blowers as it features a high-efficiency motor and integrated variable frequency drive system which minimises the loss of compressed air into the atmosphere.

In addition, the ability to precisely control the pressure of the variable speed drive results in an overall lower average working pressure that requires less energy consumption.

The use of air bearings and five axis machine impellers further enhance the blowers efficiency. The range uses trouble-free foil air bearings for greater reliability.

Individually layered foil bearings are assembled in the housing to support the shaft rather than rolling element bearings. The foil air bearings increase reliability tenfold and require no lubrication because when the shaft rotates the air film between the bearing and the shaft protects the bearing foils from wear.

In addition, the air bearings have fewer parts necessary to support the rotating assembly and eliminate the need for complicated magnetic bearings with sophisticated control systems.

Perfect for water, wastewater, power, petroleum and chemical as well as general industry applications, the range includes over 10 blower models from 4kW to 250kW with a capacity from 3.5m3/min to 228m3/min. The range uses technology that requires minimal equipment maintenance.

The stress as well as wear and tear on all mechanical components is reduced; while routine maintenance simply involves changing the inlet filter. With an emphasis on green, the Conquest Eco-Turbo Blower range has been designed to be environmentally friendly. As no lubrication is required the range is oil wastage free, eliminating the need for oil disposal.

Equipped with advanced, easy-to-use controls, each model comes with three different operating modes as standard for overall blower efficiency and reliability.

An Ethernet port allows the blower to communicate with various DCS systems to meet plant requirements and minimise costs. Highly compact, each model makes use of a small footprint helping users save on space.

No foundation support is required and the lightweight design eliminates the need for cranes to move the blower.

Each model is fully enclosed so that noise is kept to a minimum and does not exceed 85 dBA.

Pressure transducer

HBM’s latest, compact P3IC-series of pressure transducers are ideal for measuring static and dynamic pressures with measuring ranges from 10 to 3000 bar.

The transducers feature a measuring body finished from a continuous piece of steel with no welded seams making them highly suitable for general industrial applications.

The P3IC pressure transducer provides excellent precision and durability and is available in high accuracy classes from 0.1 to 0.2.

Industrial class pressure transducers in the range are available with either standard M12 connection techniques as the P3ICP version or with fixed cable in the standard P3IC version.

Compensation for the effect of residual external temperature errors is achieved by using the integrated PT100 temperature sensor.

The transducer can optionally be operated in a 6-wire circuit which gives additional signal transmission security over long cable lengths.

The P3IC series supports the Technical Transducer Data Sheet (TEDS) format that stores all the essential transducer data making it possible to greatly reduce the amount of time and expense required to configure a measurement system.

Aluminium cutters

Dormer has expanded its family of solid carbide cutters for aluminium with the launch of five new cutters specifically designed to excel in precision milling applications with state-of-the-art CNC machines.

Building on the popularity of the S140 and S142 slot drills launched in October 2007, the new tools increase the range of applications covered by cutters capable of High Speed Machining in aluminium and its alloys, as well as thermo-plastics and acrylic glass.

The S143, S144, S145 and S540 are designed with a neck and an extra long effective length to prevent the shank from coming into contact with the material. A high axial depth of cut can therefore be achieved with a short cutting length, with the added benefit of high tool rigidity. The S144 (corner radius) and S540 (ball nosed) end mills are particularly suited to machining complex surfaces.

The S149 features a reduction along the full length of the shank in order to maximise performance in deep pocket milling and profiling operations. This allows the user to adjust the length of the tool projecting from the tool holder, minimising the risk of chipping.

All tools have an extremely highly polished surface that reduces friction between the surface of the tool and the workpiece, making for fast, efficient swarf evacuation and reduced machine downtime.

This feature, combined with narrow cylindrical land and flute design optimised for chip space, minimises tool vibration which, in turn, ensures an excellent surface quality on the component.

The product launch is supported by a comprehensive brochure that includes full range details, dimensional data and optimum operating conditions.

Graphic development tools

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, has announced the latest release of DataViews 9.25, a set of high quality graphic visualization development tools for building custom applications.

Flexible bunding solutions

SPILLDOKTOR has launched a new low profile connectable bund system for increased flexibility in bunding applications.

These units come in compact ‘2 drum’ modules which can be connected in many configurations to suit almost any application.

These modules come with marks on all sides, showing where the connector is to be fitted for joining of units. There are endless configurations available to the user, depending on the particular ‘footprint’ which suits the available floor space.

Corners can also be used to advantage when bunds are joined in an ‘L’ configuration.

Each bund has a capacity of 130L which means that when 2 or more are connected they can be safely used to store 200L drums.

This satisfies all government regulations, which require a bund to safely contain at least the single largest container in the case of a spill.

This new range includes a non-slip ramp, which offers a very gentle slope for ease of drum handling and also come with a spill gutter’ around the perimeter of the unit.

Palletiser for bulky and unstable packages

JMP Australia, a leading provider of turn-key robotic palletising, packing, stretch wrapping and conveying solutions have released their latest offering, the K-Pal Palletiser.

The K-Pal system has the advantages of a layer palletiser with the flexibility of a robotic palletiser, and is ideal for handling bulky and unstable packages.

The palletiser features an Industrial robot that picks product from an infeed conveyor and places it onto a layer squaring and stripping plate assembly.

A whole layer is formed robotically then deposited onto the pallet stack in the same fashion as a conventional layer palletiser where the stripping plate slides back placing the product onto the pallet stack.

This new configuration becomes an excellent solution for products which don’t easily stack on each other because the layer squarers lock the packages against each other as they are placed on the pallet stack.

The layer squaring arrangement also prevents products from sliding off uneven stack formations.

The result is a very square and tightly packed pallet load which is very stable, and because the stacks are tighter and more stable it is possible to build taller stacks.
