Anorexic forklifts

Flexilift has released the G4 electric Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) counterbalance truck, the latest model in its ‘anorexic’ brand of forklifts.

According to Flexilift, the truck will operate in aisles as narrow as 1642mm or outside in depot yards.

Flexilift claims the Flexi G4 VNA creates up to 30% more storage space within an existing warehouse or logistics centre. The unit has a 2000kg load capacity and will lift heights over 12m.

Flexilift says the G4 VNA counterbalance truck is able to operate a complete ‘road to rack’ function, eliminating time consuming double pallet handling and the need of a separate counterbalance truck outside.

The truck has a compact axle design, is able to articulate through 220° and allows ISO pallets to be stacked and picked in 1,600mm wide aisles in two separate movements.

Automated handling system

Kockums Bulk Systems says it has invented an automated solution for Cockburn Cement to transfer bulk bags of cement into silos at 50t per hour at its Port Hedland facility.

According to Kockums, the solution involves bulk bags being lifted into a discharge hopper with cutting knives.

As the bulk bag is lowered onto the knives, the bottom is slit and the product is released into the receiving hopper. The cement is then transferred into a buffer hopper via a screw conveyor.

Kockums Bulk Systems claims the buffer hopper allows for continuous operation because it feeds the batch pneumatic conveying vessel (PCV). The PCV transfers the cement by a pipeline to the 600t capacity silo nest via a conveying line and a Kockums KH46 pneumatic conveying air power pack.

Pressure discharge road tankers fill directly from the silos and transport the cement to a client’s site silos.

Air-guided truck flooring

The new Air Guide truck trailer technology from Industrial Conveying is suited to warehouses and factories that handle palletised goods and are loaded by forklifts.

It suits industries ranging from beverage and food through to manufacturing, retail and third party logistics and reduces truck loading time to as little as three minutes.

Air Guide flooring quickly loads stacked pallets that come out of an automated warehouse, plus it has the added advantage of providing easy unloading duties to a driver at delivery points.

The challenge was to design and produce a system that raises guides for automated loading but retracts once the load is in place.

The solution is the use of guides that inflate with air. Once the load is on board, a driver simply deflates the raised guides to return to a flat, even floor that allows the use of regular pallet trucks.

When a truck backs into a bay, it is automatically levelled and aligned. The load is prepared on the dock and once the truck is in place the press of a button has the load shipped onto the back of the truck.
