Automated storage system

A NEW, modular automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) for unit loads, such as palletised goods, is said to significantly reduce the lead time, engineering complexity and costs associated with implementing automated storage solutions.

Dematic’s RapidStore requires aisles 250mm wider than the load and reaches up to 24 metres high as standard (30 metres at reduced speed and/or load).

The system reportedly has an average retrieval rate of 63 pallets per hour or 40 double cycles in a single deep system that is 24m high with a 65m long aisle. It is said to accommodate up to 1,600 standard pallets in a single aisle and 3,200 pallets in a double-deep configuration.

The RapidStore storage and retrieval machine’s unique mast design allows it to operate at travel speeds up to 240 metres/min, with hoisting speeds up to 85 metres/min and fork speeds up to 90 metres/min.

Automatic rotary arm saves wrapping

TechnoWrapp has released its new B300 stretch wrapping machine which features an automatic rotary arm and patented ‘Syncro’ ring guide.

The rotary arm with a patented ring guide rotates around the load at 45rpm, wrapping 130 pallets per hour with 10 wraps for each pallet. The ring is floor mounted to assist the rotary arm during rotation. It enables clamping, cutting and welding of the film while in motion.

The machine contains an EP-V1 electronic pre-stretch system with a tacho generator adjustable from the HMI touch-screen. This is reportedly enables smooth dispensing of the film and a high degree of pre-stretch.

TechnoWrapp stretch wrapping machines are designed to keep film usage to a minimum. On a pallet measuring 800mm x 1200mm x 1500mm high, using 9 layers of film and a standard film reel of 500mm wide x 23µm, distributors HBM Packaging Technologies says only 96 grams of films is used.

Small, fast palletizing robots

MANUFACTURERS can now take advantage of two new ABB palletising robots, three new grippers and a related software program.

The compact, 110kg capacity IRB 460 robot is reportedly the fastest palletising robot in the world. Capable of up to 2,190 cycles per hour, the 4-axis robot is designed for high-speed, end- of-line palletising and bag palletising.

The IRB 460 has a reach of 2.4 metres, occupies 20% less floor space and runs 15% faster than its nearest rivals, supplier ABB claims.

For high-output, full-layer palletising, the IRB 760 robot boasts a payload capacity of 450kg and a reach of 3.2 metres. The unit features high-wrist inertia, which enables it to rotate heavier and larger products quickly. This speed makes the IRB 760 suited for palletising beverages, building materials and chemicals.

Integrated motion in PowerFlex AC drives

Rockwell Automation has expanded its Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 755 AC drives to 450kW while also including Integrated Motion.

A key feature of the PowerFlex 755 drive is its roll-out capability, which allows easy access to the drive for fast installation and maintenance.

The drive’s modular design helps simplify replacement of drive components, such as cooling fans, circuit boards and major subassemblies. This modularity also allows the drive’s converter and control pod to remain in the unit while the inverter is rolled out so control wiring can remain connected.

Additionally, the control pod can be mounted remotely for hassle-free access to low-voltage control and diagnostics.

The PowerFlex 755 drive comes equipped with an embedded Ethernet port and five option slots that allow users to tailor the drive to best suit their application. Options include I/O, feedback, safety, additional communications and auxiliary control power input.

Linear motion control

ENERPAC’S Uni-Lift mechanical actuators have been designed for linear motion control in precision positioning and control in a mechanical package.

With strokes up to 6096mm, the B and M series Uni-Lifts which utilises ball screw and machine screw mechanisms, respectively.

According to the company, ball screw jacks with load capacities up to 100 tonnes, are well suited for high-cycle, high-speed applications, while machine screw jacks with load capacities up to 250 tons, are ideal for low-cycle, high-load applications needing a self-locking load screw.

The Uni-lifts complement Enerpac’s range of high pressure (700 bar) compact and powerful hydraulic lifting and manoeuvring technologies.

Enerpac says its line of Uni-Lift accessories allows for easy connection and precise synchronised control of multiple actuator systems. Tight tolerance thread forms, heat-treated gear sets, and pre-loaded bearings ensure repeatability and durability of these linear actuators.

Controller and motor for battery powered applications

M RUTTY & Co. has added a new solution that consists of a single quadrant speed controller “perfectly matched” to the brushless 3-phase BG motors by Dunkermotoren which has output power of up to 500 Watt. The combination is suited for use in battery powered applications (12/ 24V) or with low voltage supply.

The controller’s continuous output current is rated for 60 A with peak currents of up to 100 A (2 seconds) at a supply voltage of 8…30 V.

The parameter sets for ‘power stage off’, CW or CCW operation, two fixed speeds and variable speed operation can be selected either by dip switches or alternatively by digital inputs.

In addition, the motor speed can be set either by a 0-10 V, a 0-20 mA or a PWM input. The parameter sets can be configured via a USB interface.

A speed potentiometer scales the analogue input between 0-100 % or sets a fixed speed or current, respectively. Digital outputs provide motor and system information for external monitoring.

Continuous automatic motor lubrication

IDEAL for motor lubrication, GreaseMax single point automatic lubricators provides continuous controlled grease output at a set rate, for a set period, without maintenance or adjustment.

Suitable for use in all conditions – hot, cold, wet or vibrating – GreaseMax works without maintenance or adjustment which results in less maintenance downtime and therefore increased productivity and ROI.

Self regulating, the rate of discharge is not affected by bearing condition, seal condition or grease-way resistance and with no electrics or mechanical items, it can be quickly changed over at the end of its operating period.

Furthermore, GreaseMax can be set up to allow change-overs without the requirement for plant operations or equipment items to be isolated and shut down. This reportedly provides ROI benefits as production equipment remains online.

Digital electric motor catalogue

NORD Drivesystems M7000 electric motor catalogue is available in a digital version for download at www.nord.com or in print by order.

The catalogue provides an overview of asynchronous low-voltage motors manufactured by NORD and covers in detail the implications of the switch to IE2.

Organised by target regions, the catalogue lists the efficiency requirements in different markets. It contains technical data of NORD’s IE1 and IE2 motors along with a table comparing motor characteristics and type plate illustrations.

NORD says the IE2 motors provide the minimum efficiency required by ErP 2009/125/EG V0640-2009.

The new eco-design motors have retained motor sizes to facilitate replacements and as the motors have a more superior energy balance than IE1/standard motors, smaller units can be used in some applications, the company adds.

The motors are suitable for 50 Hz and 60 Hz operation. NORD has also maintained the suitability for a wide voltage range, ensuring unproblematic operation worldwide.

More powerful tank cleaning solution

TECPRO Australia has expanded its range of rotating spray heads with the introduction of the Turbo SSB 125, designed to clean tanks and manufacturing equipment.

Fitted with a 1.25inch BSP female connection, the Turbo SSB 125 generates a stronger impingement force with a cleaning throw length of 5m at 4 bar.

It works by using a slow, constant rotation, which allows longer chemical dwell times and improved cleaning action. It also features high impact fan jets that cut down on cleaning time.

The new 125 version has the same unique hydraulic bearing design with no ball bearings. According to Tecpro, the fact that it does not contain ball bearings prolongs its life and also eliminates the risk of contamination caused by degradation of bearings.

Constructed from Stainless Steel 316L, PTFE, or C-PTFE, the Turbo SSB 125 has a 360º spray pattern. It allows a maximum liquid temperature of 95º centigrade and a maximum ambient temperature of 140º centigrade.
