AUSTRALIAN organisations and businesses are encouraged to start preparing for national Safe Work Australia Week and to take advantage of the wide range of free resources that are now available.
In a statement released today by Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC), Chairman Bill Scales AO, said he encourages everybody to get involved during Safe Work Australia Week and to start planning how safety will be promoted in their workplace.
“More than 140 000 Australians are seriously injured at work every year and more than 250 die as a result of work-related injuries. There is no better time to strengthen workplace safety messages,” Scales said.
“I am pleased to announce that free resources to assist in hosting Safe Work Australia Week events are now available from the ASCC website including ideas for workplace events, posters, logos and templates to download, and our very popular promotional products to distribute in the workplace.”
Safe Work Australia Week is a national week to focus attention on workplace safety around Australia. It aims to encourage all working Australians to get involved in, and concentrate on, safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease.
This year Safe Work Australia Week will be held from 19 – 25 October 2008.
“Safe Work Australia Week events don’t need to cost a lot of money or take a lot of time — morning teas, review of safety procedures and safety slogan competitions are just some of the fun and informative ways the week was celebrated by some 2000 organisations last year.
“Each year we are receiving more support and recognition of this important safety initiative. This could not have been achieved without the overwhelming support from workplaces across Australia.
“Each state and territory is also conducting a range of initiatives as part of Safe Work Australia Week that people can become involved in. It is important to remember that safety is everybody’s business”, said Mr Scales.
