Power Equipment has taken out the title of ‘best small business over the past 20 years’ at the 20th Premier Regional Business Awards held in at the Crown Casino, Melbourne.
Power Equipment is an Australian distributor for Yanmar diesel engines and JCB industrial diesel engines. The company won the award for Best Small Business back in 1997.
Accepting the award, Power Equipment managing director Allan Foster said the company has undergone “quite a bit of change” since 1997 that he’s not sure that the company is considered a “small business any longer”.
The company recently relocated from Scoresby to a purpose built premises at Lynbrook. The move was result of strong and sustained company growth.
“Over the past few years we have made five acquisitions, grown our staff to 100 employees and moved to bigger premises. We have also expanded from Yanmar distribution to also become the JCB distributor,” Foster said.
“And in addition to our Australian market, we have added New Zealand and the Pacific to our distribution zone.”
Foster also acknowledged the people behind the Power Equipment brand in Australia and New Zealand.
“The company is the sum of its people, and without excellent people we wouldn’t have the opportunity of being here tonight,” Foster said.
2011 marked the Premier Regional Business Awards’ platinum year. To celebrate the award’s 20th year anniversary, awards organisers, the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce, elected the concept of having a ‘Best of the Best’ theme.
The judging process involved a review of all award winners in each category over the past twenty years and the judging criteria included factors such as honesty, integrity, expertise and passion.
The Premier Regional Business Awards was held in the Palladium Ballroom at Crown Casino, Melbourne.
Award winners included Aussie Disposals, Hygain Feeds and Jayco Caravans.
Australian of the Year 2011, Simon McKeon, a born and bred Dandenong man was the special guest of honour at the awards evening.
Power Equipment is the exclusive and authorised Australian, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and South Pacific distributor of Yanmar Marine and Industrial diesel engines importing product from Yanmar plants in Japan, Asia, USA and Europe.
The company is also the exclusive authorised distributor of JCB DieselMax engines for Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific.
Power Equipment distributes the Yanmar powered MASE diesel marine generators range and Gori high quality folding sailboat propellers.
