Fire protection solutions provider Wormald has completed a confined space training project for the Peanut Company of Australia (PCA), providing employees with training to safely enter confined spaces during the normal course of their work.
Usually defined as places with difficult access, limited visibility and poor ventilation, confined spaces in the workplace can present a significant safety risk, Wormald says.
With PCA involved in all aspects of the peanut processing chain, its vast facility incorporates a number of confined spaces.
These confined spaces reportedly exhibit a variety of risks and include large silo storage areas as well as underground process areas, such as elevator pits.
Wormald’s confined space training course is aimed to equip PCA’s employees with the knowledge and skills to safely enter and operate in confined spaces, avoiding exposure to hazardous substances, flammable or explosive conditions and addressing other safety or health issues.
“The training was invaluable for our staff who are required to work regularly in these smaller spaces,” said Peanut Company of Australia WHS&E/HR manager, Steve Magnussen.
“We strive to keep our team up-to-date with the latest Standards and legislation to ensure everyone involved, as well as the company itself, fulfils their OH&S obligations. Training forms a large part of this process.”
