Osmoflo wins desalination contract for Xstrata Coal’s Ulan mine

Desalination technology provider Osmoflo has won a $12 million contract to design, manufacture and commission water conditioning and desalination facilities for mining giant Xstrata Coal.

As reported in adelaidenow, the contract will apply to Xstrata’s Ulan mine in NSW.

The pre-treatment system uses a unique oxidation process developed by Osmoflo's engineers. It will be fabricated at the company's Burton facility.

"The reputation of Osmoflo as Adelaide's water treatment and desalination specialist supplier to the resources industry is further enhanced through the award of this major contract," managing director Marc Fabig said.

This isn’t the first time the two companies have done business. Osmoflo previously supplied equipment and technical support for a desalination plant to Xstrata Coal.

Osmoflo is partly owned by Japan's Marubeni Corporation. The company was selected earlier this year to provide ship-mounted desal plants for crews working on the $40 billion-plus Ichthys liquefied natural gas project off the coast of Darwin.
