Orica appoints new CFO

Mining explosives maker Orica has appointed Thomas Schutte as its new Chief Financial Officer and as a member of its Executive Committee.

The company said in a statement that UK-based Schutte (pictured) will take up the new role 1 September 2015 (or earlier, subject to his relocation and other requirements).

Schutte has held a range of leadership positions at BHP Billiton, including four years as President and CEO of BHP Billiton’s manganese joint venture with Anglo American, Samancor Manganese, based in South Africa. Prior to that, he was President of BHP Billiton’s Global Marketing with responsibility for all sales, Group purchasing, market analytics and global freight.

Orica CEO Alberto Calderon said of Schutte – “…having worked in the global resources sector for more than 20 years he has a deep understanding of our customer base. I expect he will play a key role in executing Orica’s strategic objectives globally.”

Calderon himself has only been in his position as Orica CEO since May. He stepped into the position after the sudden resignation of former CEU Ian Smith.
