Opposition opposes Roos’ car industry comments

The Opposition says South Australia’s automotive industry should not be “written off”, according to an article posted on the ABC News website.

Goran Roos, the SA Government’s newest ‘thinker-in-residence’, is reportedly questioning the future of local car manufacturing because of subsidies used to boost production.

However, Opposition industry and trade spokesman, Martin Hamilton-Smith, says wider debate is warranted.

"Let’s not criticise the automotive industry and the other supporting industries and small businesses that depend upon it, let’s shine the light forward and help them find a way to be even more competitive, but doing things the South Australian way by being smart, by being innovative and by going after the right niche markets," he said.
