Offshore vessel hub to create hundreds of WA jobs

The first stage of the Onslow Marine Support Base, which will create hundreds of jobs once fully completed, has opened.

The base is a privately funded project that will eventually be developed into a service hub for vessels operating throughout north-west Western Australia’s offshore oil and gas fields.

Stage one of the project involved the construction of a berth pocket in Beadon Creek to form a land-based wharf facility.

It is anticipated the completed project will be a world-class marine supply base with the capability to cater for any size vessel, while providing employment for hundreds of people.

The state government has assisted the project by providing improved infrastructure such as roads, services and a laydown area.

“The base will be transformative, providing a significant economic boost to Onslow and substantial benefits to the offshore oil and gas industry,” said Transport minister Rita Saffioti.

“I am proud of the state government’s involvement in providing improved infrastructure and commend the base for their investment in the WA economy.

“The State Government has an important role to play in facilitating private investment where possible and the Onslow Marine Support Base is a real success story.

“My agencies and our Government will continue to work with the base to maximise the shared benefits of the project.

“I look forward to working with the base to assist it in securing federal government funding to expand its operations.”
