NT government wants more local jobs provided through Inpex project

The Northern Territory government has suggested that Japanese fuel exploration company Inpex provide further contracts to Darwin manufacturers working on the Darwin Harbour gas project.

“There's a very strong argument that was put right at the beginning by Inpex, right when they came and they said this is a long-term project, 35 years plus,” NT chief minister Terry Mills told the ABC.

Mills has said that the Manufacturers Council is pressing contracting group JKC to provide contracts to locals.

“And local manufacturers have responded in good faith, they've prepared themselves well and I think the ball is now in their court,” he said.

“Bring the work earlier, break it into smaller portions so local manufacturers can access.”
