Borg Manufacturing has received approval from the State Government to expand its medium density fibreboard (MDF) facility in Oberon, NSW.
The $106 million expansion will result in the addition of $51 million to the local economy, creating 230 construction jobs and 70 new permanent jobs at the facility, according to the Department of Planning and Environment.
“The factory has a heart and the heart is filled with Oberon blood,” Borg’s Oberon plant manager, Greg Muir, told Oberon Review.
“We want to be here for the long-term and I have ultimate confidence that this company will do the right thing by everyone in Oberon.”
Borg has expressed its intention to hire locally, although NSW Minister for Forestry and local MP Paul Toole noted that due to Oberon’s low unemployment rate, some positions at the plant will need to be filled from elsewhere.
Construction on the project is expected to begin in the next few weeks, with an estimated timeline of 18 months.
