No protection for QLD workers: Union

The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union has accused the QLD Government of overlooking manufacturing workers in a six month plan released this week.

The Chronicle reports AMWU secretary Rohan Webb said Premier Campbell Newman's plan did not address the current challenges faced by the industry.

In the fiery statement Webb hit out at Newman's “failure to spell out his policy for the tens of thousands of manufacturing workers across QLD”.

A spokesperson for the Premier's office told The Chronicle the Government had received praise from the AMWU for fast-tracking a number of developments expected to boost the manufacturing industry.

The Premier's office also said the Bligh Government's legacy had contributed to weakness in the sector, and the current Government was focused on cutting red tape and regulation to speed up development.
