Worker dies after fight at a Foodstuffs NZ warehouse

A 22-year-old man has been charged after a death at a
Foodstuffs warehouse at Wiri, south Auckland.

NZCity reports that Gordon Puketapu Hona, 46, was found
unconscious at the premises on Friday. Emergency services were summoned but Hona
died at the scene.

A 22-year-old has been charged with assault, with police
waiting until post-mortem results before deciding on whether or not to lay charges.

Fairfax reports there was an “apparent fight” and the death
is being treated as suspicious. Witnesses reported an altercation before Hona
had died.

“We are also providing counselling and support for our staff
and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future,” Foodstuffs North Island
managing director Murray Jordan told Fairfax.

“This will remain our focus over the coming days as the
police progress their investigation.”
