Worker caught in machine suffers “significant lacerations”

A woman is in critical condition after suffering massive injuries in an accident at a mushroom factory in Melbourne.

The Herald Sun reports ambulance officials said the 25-year-old worker suffered “multiple trauma with significant lacerations to her head and chest” after being caught in machinery.

It is believed the woman may have caught her head in the machine whilst working and ambulance, fire, and State Emergency Services were all called to the scene.

WorkSafe said it would conduct a full investigation into the incident, but at this stage it could not speculate on how the accident took place.

The accident is the latest in a spate of serious incidents in the manufacturing sector.

Earlier this week a worker at a glass manufacturer in Perth died in an accident, and last month a worker at a Tomago metal plant also died.
