Wood manufacturing industry in Hunter urged to focus on safety

WorkCover NSW has identified wood manufacturing in the Hunter region as a high risk industry and has urged safety to be a focus for all manufacturers in the sector.

As the ABC reports, in the past three years there have been 70 serious workplace injuries in the region which have cost the industry $1.4 million.

WorkCover Newcastle acting team coordinator Nathan Hamilton said that the number of injuries needs to be reduced.

He urged employers to familiarise themselves with the safety procedures and strategies which are available on his organisation’s website and to implement this advice into their workplaces.

"The risks are manageable if the practical tools and assistance developed by WorkCover are implemented," Hamilton said.
