Volkswagen will cease making the Kombi at the end of 2013, the boss of its Brazilian operations has revealed.
CEO Thomas Schmall told Car and Driver magazine at the International Suppliers Fair in Wolfsburg that production will wind up on the iconic Kombi T2. Sao Bernardo del Campo, Brazil, is the only site at which the Kombi is still manufactured.
The Kombi has been made since 1950 and offered in Brazil since 1957. One executive in the company explained the decision to stop making Kombis as a necessary cultural shift for Volkswagen.
“At some point, you are the brand with the old cars,” he said.
