Industry veteran Ralph Schmitt has been appointed as CEO of Victorian sensor manufacturer Sensera and will start on Monday.
A former executive for Toshiba America Electronic Components, Schmitt enters his new role with added CEO experience for PLX Technology, OCZ Technology and Sipex.
Sensera is a leading designer and manufacturer of end-to-end sensor solutions and services for the rapidly-growing Internet of Things (IoT) market.
At Toshiba, Schmitt led the development of cognitive computing software and systems to leverage the company’s portfolio of semiconductors and storage for industrial applications.
“I am excited to begin working with the talented team at Sensera to help drive market uptake of its innovative I0T-enabled solutions,” said Schmitt. “I have a deep appreciation for the intellectual property Sensera has developed from the device microelectronic level, to market-ready hardware and system software.
“This unique combination of capabilities empowers us to bring some exciting solutions to multiple high-growth markets. I look forward to working with Sensera to refine the company’s strategy and execute to drive long-term shareholder value.”
Though currently based in San Francisco, Schmitt will relocate to Boston at the end of the year, where Sensera’s US operations are located.
The new appointment marks the start of changes at Sensera, according to a company statement – including the transition of the executive chairman’s role to non-executive chairman, at which time Schmitt will be made managing director.
“We are pleased to have secured an experienced public company CEO of Ralph’s caliber,” said Sensera chairman, Matt Morgan. “Throughout Ralph’s career, he has gained valuable experience in a variety of organisations from start-up to multinational corporations.
