Toyota has issued a worldwide recall of 26 of its models,
totalling 6.39 million vehicles worldwide and approximately 300,000 in
Toyota Australia has recalled 118,600 previous generation Yaris three- and five-door hatchbacks and Yaris sedan vehicles (made
between June 2005 and May 2010), and 179,000 current generation Hiluxes built between April 2004 and December 2009.
The Yaris recall is “due to the possibility that if the seat is
moved forwards and backwards frequently the spring locking the driver’s seat
track in position may break.”
Hilux recall is “due to the
possibility that the spiral cable, which is part of the supplementary restraint
system (SRS) located between the steering wheel and steering column, may become
damaged when the steering wheel is repeatedly turned.”.
The ABC reports that the worldwide recall applies to 26
Toyota models as well as the Pontiac Vibe and Subaru Trezia. Approximate
recalls total 1.08 million vehicles in Japan, 2.3 million in North America,
770,000 in Europe and 62,000 in China.
