Smart parking trial for Canberra

SMART Parking will install 460 car parking sensors in Canberra in a 12 month trial of its technology.

According to Smart Parking, it has won the tender and entered into a contract with the Australian Capital Territory government for the fully paid 12 month car parking sensor trial.

In addition to the 460 sensors in both on street and off-street parking environments, Smart Parking will also install associated technology to drive the sensors. The on-street sensors will be installed to serve a range of parking requirements, including free but time limited, pay and display, and disabled permit parking bays.

The trial will allow Canberra authorities to use real-time information from the sensors to provide motorists with a smartphone application, showing parking spaces availability around Canberra.

Smart Parking provides various parking management solutions. It offers, among other technologies, ticketless, barrier-free camera-based parking and entry solutions, based on optical recognition of vehicle number plates.
