Congratulating the winners of the 8th Annual Manufacturers’ Monthly Endeavour Awards, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said the ability of Australia’s manufacturing sector to innovate, adapt and change is critical to our future prosperity and security.
“I congratulate the winners of the Endeavour Awards. They show what Australian manufacturing can achieve and how important it is to our everyday lives,” Senator Carr said.
“We have a great and proud tradition in manufacturing and I firmly believe that our companies are amongst the best in the world.
“Our ability to innovate and adjust to changes in the market continues to produce highwage, high-skill jobs. This is a sector that employs almost one million Australians, supporting their families and contributing to the prosperity of their communities.”
From a shortlist of 99 finalists, 11 companies and two leading industry figures received the prestigious awards.
“The awards recognise leaders in different fields. For example, Longwarry Food Park, which produces milk powder for export, received the Environmental Solution of the Year Award for converting a dairy plant into energy efficient premises. The plant was shut down in 1997, but has since increased production by 300 per cent, while reducing greenhouse gases by 25 per cent and water usage by 40 per cent,” Senator Carr said.
“Quickstep Holdings won the Global Integration Award for securing a contract to supply up to $700 million worth of components to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.”
