Rydalmere chemical factory fire contained this morning

Approximately
20 were evacuated from nearby buildings after a pool products factory and
showroom in Rydalmere caught fire early this morning.

News Corp reports that the South Street Waterco factory fire was contained at about 5:30 am. Over 100 firefighters attended the scene, with Hazmat teams also contacted
to prevent chemicals from reaching the Parramatta River.

The fire began at about 2:30 am.

“We were very concerned that this massive fire would
move to a warehouse to the rear and a paper recycling plant,” Fire and Rescue Commissioner Greg Mullins told the ABC.

“Now if it had done that, this fire would’ve burnt for
days.”

No
chemicals were exposed to the fire, which was not being treated as suspicious.
