Rockwell Collins to manufacture for JSF

and communications company Rockwell Collins is expanding its manufacturing of optical
assemblies, with these to be produced in Melbourne for the F-35 Lightning Joint Strike Fighter program.

UPI reports that the Cedar Rapids-headquartered US firm has reached a new agreement with
F-35 industry partner Northrop Grumman. Northrop makes the Electro-Optical Distributed Aperture
System for the JSF.

Collins Australia, a wholly-owned subsidiary, is currently qualifying its
factory to produce the assemblies.

“With the support and investment of the Commonwealth of
Australia, we’re proud to be on the path to be manufacturing 40 percent of this
vital assembly in Australia,” Nick Gibbs, Rockwell’s Australian managing
director said, according to UPI.

“Our employees are very excited to be part of the F-35 supply
chain with our new state-of-the-art precision optics manufacturing capability.”

Rockwell’s Tullamarine, Melbourne facility carries out work for commercial carriers in the
Asia Pacific region, including Qantas and Air NZ.
